David has returned to East Tennessee where he and Kathryn, his wife of 34 years, were raised. He is a graduate of Maryville High School who then went on to Tennessee Tech University for his bachelor’s degree and to both the University of Tennessee Law School and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary for graduate degrees.

David comes to Emerald with over 30 years of experience serving in higher education at Bluefield University, Pfeiffer University, and Carson-Newman University. He is glad to be part of the Emerald Youth family, joining our Christ-focused, mission-driven work and making a positive difference in the lives of Knoxville’s youth.

In his free time, David enjoys reading novels and American history, taking walks with Kathryn, and spending time with family and friends. You can see his eyes light up as he tells you about his children, Kayla and Will. Kayla teaches art at an inner-city Christian academy in Birmingham, Alabama, and Will is in his third year of osteopathic medical school here in Knoxville. He and Kathryn are enjoying this new adventure, being closer to her parents, reconnecting with past friends, and building community at Sevier Heights Baptist Church where they are now attending.
